What are Google Vehicle Listing Ads (VLA)?

Last updated: June 21, 2026

Google Vehicle Listing Ads (VLAs) are an ad format that shows a dealership's real, in-stock used and new vehicles directly in Google Search results — each with a photo, price, mileage, and the dealer's name. They pull from a vehicle inventory feed in Google Merchant Center, so shoppers see actual cars you have on the lot, not generic creative.

How Vehicle Listing Ads work

When a shopper searches for a vehicle (for example, "used SUV near me"), Google can show a carousel of specific vehicles that match. Each card is generated from your inventory feed and links to the vehicle detail page (VDP) on your website. Because the listing reflects live feed data, a clean, current feed is what determines which of your vehicles appear and whether the price and availability are correct.

What you need to run VLAs

For Google's official requirements, see the Merchant Center vehicle ads documentation.

Why the feed makes or breaks VLAs

VLAs are only as good as the feed behind them. If required attributes are missing, prices don't match the VDP, or listings get disapproved, those vehicles silently drop out of results — you keep paying for the campaign while part of your lot is invisible. Keeping the feed complete, accurate, and approved is the single biggest lever on VLA performance, which is exactly the layer DealerFeeds manages.

Frequently asked questions

Are Google Vehicle Listing Ads free?+

Vehicle listings can appear in both free and paid placements. Paid VLAs run through Google Ads; free vehicle listings can appear at no media cost once your Merchant Center vehicle feed is approved. Both rely on the same inventory feed.

What do I need to run VLAs?+

A Google Merchant Center account with an approved vehicle feed, a linked Google Ads account, a Google Business Profile, and vehicle detail pages that match the feed data.

Why aren't all my vehicles showing?+

Usually feed problems: missing required attributes, disapprovals in Merchant Center, or feed data that doesn't match the vehicle detail page. A vehicle only shows when its feed entry is complete and approved.
